Dermalogica claim it’s the “Ultimate Skin Care Product”, originally when Power Rich first came out it was treated as the “Rolls Royce” of Dermalogica Skin Care and Day Spas had to meet certain criteria to be able to stock Power Rich. These days you will find DermalogicaPower Rich in most beauty centres and even online, it’s exclusivity may have gone but it’s power is still there – however not many people understand how it works, what it does and why would they want to use it. So today I am going to de-mystifity and address the issues of Power Rich and you will be a Power Rich Queen by the time I’m through!

What is Dermalogica Power Rich?

Dermalogica Power Rich is recommended for anyone with mature skin, but also people in their twenties who are “scared-of-ageing” and want to fight-it before the visible signs of ageing appear – Yes BEFORE THEY APPEAR!In fact Jane Wurwand the Dermalogica Founder Herself Says, “Power Rich nourishes, repairs and firms skin tissues long before any lines and wrinkles make their first appearance”. However if your skin is young and you have oily skin or a heavy dose of oily shine, you won’t need this product just yet.

Dermalogica Power Rich is a maximum intensity cream with exclusive acid-free technology which improves skin firmness and texture even before the first visible signs of ageing appear. The Power Rich formula itself is actually three different formulas that are combined together to make one product i.e. Power Rich. It is quiet technological-stuff and the formulas work together to strengthen and firm “changing skin” as Dermalogica like to call it, as anybody can use this cream who would like to improve skin firmness and texture.

How do you use Power Rich?

Dermalogica Power Rich is a moisturiser, it’s a nice rich cream, but without the “thickness” of a really rich cream and does not leave a sticky feeling on the skin, in fact your skin will feel incredibly smooth after use, kind of velvety. If you find your skin more to the drier side you may prefer to apply another dermalogica moisturiser over the top or use Power Rich at nighttime and use a thicker-textured cream in the day. However I must tell you – if you use Dermalogica Power Richin the day time you will find that your makeup just glides on superbly! As your skin feels really silky-smooth thanks to the acid-free smoothing formula in it.

Is Power Rich Expensive?

Power Rich is rather in the “Richer” end of the scale of skin care for pricing AUS RRP$305.00, but I always say you get what you pay for and this cream delivers results! If your young and may be considering using Power Rich, my advice – get it – invest in your skin. You do not have to use it all over your face. In fact you may be even surprised to know that you can use it as an eye cream and if you work out the pricing it’s actually more economical to buy it just for an eye cream instead of buying a specific eye cream. If you are going to use it for your face, for best results Dermalogicarecommend apply  it to cleansed skin, concentrating on any areas of visible aging to restore resilience and strength. The pharmaceutical-strength grade of this formula works best when used alone. Dermalogica Power Rich Metal Key For Squeezing Out Every Last Drop!

Dermalogica Power Rich is actually packaged rather differently to the rest of the dermalogica products it comes in a silver boxed case with five individual tubes and a metal key. Each tube will last you one week (if you use it morning and night over your face and neck). However can you imagine how long this lasts for just an eye cream – AGES!!! Some of my clients who I treat share a pack between “mother and daughter” as each tube is 10ml, so five tubes you are getting 50ml. A typical dermalogica eye cream is around 15ml which normally lasts around 4-5 months so do the maths – It will last you a long, long time! You also get this fancy metal key, which you use to roll the tube of Power Rich to get every last little bit of product out – kind of like those toothpaste saver things. Dermalogica made a big thing out of these tubes, because the ingredients have been combined in such as way, to keep them in there most potent state, they made small quantities of Power Rich at a time and had to put the silky-rich cream in these tubes to preserve there potency and keep them fresh (great for travel) – I don’t know if this is one of there marketing gimmicks but it sounds good anyway!

How Does Dermalogica Power Rich Work?

Are you ready for this? Don’t go asleep on me just yet! By the time we all hit thirty years old, we lose around one percent of collagen with each birthday. You will find your skin becomes finer, dry lines start to appear and your skin has a general weaker, less toned appearance starting to begin – I know it’s scary stuff! Power Rich is made of three different ingredients/product phrases, that are blended together in such a way to give a better effect than applying them one there own. This concentrated formulation provides intense hydration to your skin, gives a gentle exfoliation effect, giving you a smoother, more even texture, that increase the firmness of your skin. The First Phase of Power Rich – Biostimulating Botanicals Brown Seaweed Extract is used which contributes to a tightening and smoothing effect of the skin. There is also red algae which works at firming the skin by helping the cells of the epidermis stay together more effectively. This seaweed and algae formula is blended into a specially prepared herbal base of skin firming wheat protein extracts, skin smoothing kukui nut, apricot kernel oil and the soothing extracts of liquorice, bisabolol and allantoin, which are dermalogica’s favourite ingredients to use for calming the skin. So you can see that this first stage of the dermalogica power rich formula is all about firming and strengthening the skin in a hydrating and soothing way and remember this is just the first stage of power rich! The Second Phrase Formula – Acid-Free Smoothing Agents Dermalogica don’t like to use any ingredients in their products that cause irritation to the skin. One of the big problems with AHA’s is that you need to have a ph of 3 or lower for the acids to really work effectively on the skin. Our own skin is naturally a ph of 4.5-5.5, so anything higher or lower will alter the natural ph of your skin. To work around this problem dermalogica decided to use an acid-free cell renewal formula, so you don’t get the irritation, redness or flaking which can be a common problem for some people on AHA’s like (glycolic or salicylic acid). The acid free formula is derived from algae and yeast with the moisturising urea, these three ingredients help to stimulate natural collagen formation, contribute to increasing the hylauronic acid in the skin (this has wonderful moisturising properties), as well as having an overall firming action, without any irritation, without any dryness but at the same time, giving the skin a wonderful, fresh appearance thanks to the removal of dead skin cells and the increase of hydration and smoother appearance of the skin. Best of all it does this without altering the skin’s ph balance and that means that sensitive skins can tolerate the formula and it’s gentle enough to be used on a daily basis and gentle enough to be used around the eye area!
